History of Mulanthuruthy Block Panchayat

Mulanthuruthy Block Panchayat, situated in Kanayannur Taluk of Ernakulam District, is one of the important rural local self-government institutions in the district. The Block Panchayat functions as an important link in the decentralized local governance system, coordinating development activities among the Grama Panchayats within its jurisdiction.

The Mulanthuruthy region has a rich historical and cultural heritage. Agriculture, traditional occupations, water resources, places of worship, local markets and community institutions have played an important role in the social and economic development of the area. Coconut cultivation, paddy cultivation, banana cultivation and other agricultural activities traditionally formed an important part of the local economy.

The Block Panchayat covers the Grama Panchayats of Amballur, Edakkattuvayal, Chottanikkara, Maneed, Mulanthuruthy and Udayamperoor. These local bodies work together with the Block Panchayat in implementing various development and welfare programmes.

With the strengthening of the Panchayati Raj system and decentralized planning in Kerala, the Mulanthuruthy Block Panchayat has played an important role in coordinating development programmes in areas such as roads, drinking water, housing, health, education, agriculture, sanitation, social welfare, women and child development, and livelihood promotion.

The Block Panchayat office is located at Perumpilly. The institution continues to focus on improving basic infrastructure and public services while promoting people's participation in local development.

Today, Mulanthuruthy Block Panchayat combines its historical and cultural heritage with modern development initiatives. Sustainable development, social welfare, environmental protection, digital governance and participatory planning remain important aspects of its continuing development journey.
